Deer Carcass Transportation

Import Restrictions Governing Carcasses

Import of carcasses and parts from white-tailed deer, mule deer or elk allowed as follows:

  1. De-boned meat or commercially-processed meat which may contain bones.
  2. Carcasses or parts of carcasses with the head or spinal column attached, if they are delivered within 72 hours after entry to a meat processor inspected by the BOAH. A meat processor accepting such animals must dispose of discarded tissue from the animal at a landfill permitted by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management or through a renderer licensed by the BOAH.
  3. Antlers, including antlers attached to skull caps, if the skull cap is cleaned of all brain and muscle tissue.
  4. Hides.
  5. Upper canine teeth, also known as "buglers", "whistlers", or "ivories".
  6. Heads, if they are delivered to a taxidermist licensed by the DNR within 72 hours after entry. A taxidermist accepting such a head must dispose of discarded tissue from the head at a landfill permitted by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management or through a renderer licensed by the BOAH.
  7. Finished taxidermist mounts.
