SRR Grant CONNECT Initiative

Indiana Statewide Recidivism Reduction
CONNECT Initiative

On October 1, 2016, the Indiana Department of Correction received notification of being awarded the first-year of funding for a three-year renewable grant as a recipient of the Second Chance Act (SCA) Statewide Adult Recidivism Reduction Strategic Planning Program from the United States Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, and Bureau of Justice Assistance.

IDOC is meeting the challenge outlined in the grant by strengthening infrastructure and capacity building for Re-Entry, providing case management education and reentry planning, implementing evidence-based programming and services to address criminogenic needs, along with the implementation of effective community supervision practices and providing housing assistance to reduce recidivism. IDOC kicked off this multi-faceted approach to Re-Entry in June at the 2017 Case Management Conference. IDOC partner, The Carey Group have presented on this initiative both the 2017 and 2018 Case Management Conference, as well as the 2017 and 2018 Re-Entry Retreat. The Case Management Conferences were attended by Case Management and programming staff while the Re-Entry Retreats were attended by facility administration and IDOC executive staff.
