COBRA

The Federal Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) requires the state of Indiana to offer covered employees and eligible family members the opportunity for a temporary extension of health coverage at group rates when coverage under the health plan would otherwise end. You and your eligible dependents will receive a COBRA continuation offer for the health, dental and/or vision plans you are enrolled in at the time of employment separation.

Additional Information

A temporary extension of the time frame to elect continuation of medical, dental, and vision coverage under COBRA is in place from March 1, 2020 through 60 days beyond the end of the national emergency related to COVID-19 or until further federal guidance is released. If continuation coverage is elected and premiums are paid, there will be no lapse in coverage. However, COBRA premiums must still be paid back to the date of coverage termination. It is in your best interest to elect continuation of coverage under COBRA as soon as you determine it to be necessary in order to minimize any temporary lapse in coverage and to minimize the accrual of a large amount of COBRA premiums to be paid.

* Please note that this temporary extension does not apply to requests to port or convert Life Insurance coverage.
