Visitation
Special Message: IDOC Comprehensive Response to COVID-19
Public Visitation:
To limit the opportunity of introducing the COVID-19 virus to a prison facility, visitations at this facility have been suspended until further notice. This includes Volunteer Staff.
Attorney Visits:
Requests for general in-person legal visits between attorneys and offenders must be made to the facility where the offender is housed. Attorney/offender visit requests will only be scheduled when safe to do so on a facility-by-facility basis and are subject to being postponed or rescheduled. A reliable alternative to an in-person attorney/offender visit is to schedule a confidential phone call. The offender must have the attorney's phone number added to their approved telephone list. All calls are 'collect' unless the offender utilizes prepaid minutes.
Further Updates on Public Visitation and Attorney Visits:
Please return to this site for updates about restrictions for public and volunteer staff visitation, as well as any extension of the ending date for attorney / offender in-person visitation. Once restrictions are lifted the regular ‘Visiting Guidelines’ listed below will again be in effect.

Incoming correspondence to offenders must be in a plain white envelope. Photographs shall be permitted provided they are printed onto originally purchased photography paper. All stamps shall be removed from the envelope prior to the offender receiving his/her mail. This Executive Directive does not prohibit correspondence, including non-colored black and white computer-printed newspaper articles and drawings/artwork and plain white envelopes that have text printed on them manually, or electronically.
Effective October 10, 2017 there will be a change in visitation with offenders on non-contact visiting status. Those offenders who are on non-contact visiting status will now visit with family/friends via video. Visitors (who participate in non-contact visits at the facility) will take part in the video visit in the visitor’s waiting room in lieu of the non-contact booths in the visiting room. Friends and family may still schedule video visits through JPay.
