Community Corrections and Justice Reinvestment Grants

Overview

The Indiana Department of Correction Community Corrections Division provides state aid through the Community Corrections and Justice Reinvestment Funding as an annual grant under IC 11-12.

The Community Corrections Division, in partnership with state and local criminal justice agencies and Community Corrections Advisory Boards, work collaboratively to develop Community Corrections programs utilzied by local courts and the Department of Correction to supervise, sanction, and treat offenders and an alternative to incarceration. The division's role is to ensure services are provided in accordance with the proposed plan and best correctional practices.

Purpose of the Grant

Authority IC 11-12

The division distributes grant funding to established Community Corrections Advisory Boards for the purposes of encouraging counties to develop coordinated local criminal justice systems to provide evidence based alternatives to incarceration for high risk or high need felony offenders.

At the state level, grants are made available to Community Corrections Advisory Boards under IC 11-12-2-2 to fund:

  • Operations of a Community Corrections Program
  • Operations of a Court Supervised Reduction program

In addition, support funding is available to supplement probation departments, pretrial diversion programs, and jails with mental health and substance abuse treatment programs that provide evidence based programming.
