Next Level Trails Awards

Next Level Trails, the largest infusion of trail funding in state history, will invest $90 million to make Indiana one of the most trail-friendly states in the country. Since the program was announced in December 2018, Next Level Trails has:

  • Awarded 35 projects, including 20 regionally significant projects and 15 locally significant projects.
  • Invested $54.3 million in Next Level Trails grant funding, combined with $34.4 million in local match value for a total investment of $88.7 million in trails in Indiana.  
  • Partnered with local units of government and non-profits to develop more than 112 miles of trail in 28 counties.

Round One Awards

  • 17 trail projects, including 10 regionally significant and 7 locally significant projects announced in May 2019.
  • More than $24.7 million in Next Level Trails grant funding, combined with $12.5 million in local match value, will invest a total of more than $37.4 million.
  • More than 42 miles of trail to be developed in 17 Indiana counties.

Round Two Awards

  • 18 trail projects, including 10 regionally significant and 8 locally significant projects, announced in March 2021.
  • Nearly $29.6 million in Next Level Trails grant funding, combined with $21.9 million in local match value, will invest a total of $51.5 million.
  • More than 70 miles of trail to be developed in 16 Indiana counties.
