Renewal Information

  • Architect and Landscape Architect registrations expired December 31 of odd-numbered years.
  • The architect and landscape architect renewal fee is $120.
  • Architects and Landscape Architects are required to obtain twenty-four hours of continuing education in each biennial licensure period. For more information regarding CE please visit our continuing education requirements page.

Renewal notices are sent approximately ninety (90) days prior to the expiration date. License holders with valid email addresses on file will be emailed the renewal notice. Those who do not have valid email addresses on file will be mailed the license renewal notice; this notice is mailed to the address of record with the Board. The Board has no way of knowing whether or not a notice reaches its destination; therefore, when a notice has been emailed to a valid email address or mailed, the duty of the Board has been performed.

Online renewal is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for most license renewals. Online renewal takes only minutes, and your renewal will be processed and available for verification the next business day. Make sure to select "Register a Person" to create your login credentials.

Inactive Status

If you wish to renew your license to inactive status, you may renew online or by paper by selecting "Yes" when asked if you would like to put your license in inactive status. Maintaining inactive status requires you to continue to renew every 2 years and pay the renewal fee of $120. When renewing to inactive status, you are not required to complete continuing education. An inactive registered architect or landscape architect may not practice architecture or landscape architecture.

If your license is on inactive status and you wish to renew to active status, you may email your request to the Board at pla10@pla.in.gov.  Please include your license number and copies of continuing education certificates verifying 24 hours taken in the previous 2 years. This status change should be made prior to completing your license renewal.

Retired Status

If any registered architect or landscape architect desires to retire from the practice of architecture or landscape architecture in Indiana, the architect may submit to the board the architect's verified statement of intention to withdraw from practice. If you wish to request 'retired' status, please email your statement to pla10@pla.in.gov and do not complete the renewal process.

If any retired architect desires to return to the practice of architecture in Indiana, the retired architect must meet the following requirements:
If the certificate of registration has been expired for less than five (5) years, the retired architect must:
(A) file with the board a verified statement indicating the architect's desire to return to the practice of architecture;
 and
(B) pay a renewal fee equal to the fee set by the board to renew an unexpired registration.

If the certificate of registration has been expired for more than five (5) years, the retired architect must:
(A) file with the board a verified statement indicating the architect's desire to return to the practice of architecture;
(B) pay a renewal fee equal to the fee set by the board to renew an unexpired registration; and
(C) complete remediation and additional training established by the board based on the length of time the certificate of registration has been expired.

Paper Renewal Documents

To renew your license by paper, you must select a document below.  Print and mail the completed form with the required renewal fee to the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency. The address is on the form, and checks should be made out to 'Indiana Professional Licensing Agency.'  If your license has been expired for more than three (3) years or the license renewal form you need is not available, please contact the Board by email at pla10@pla.in.gov
