COVID-19 Actions

Waiver of One Year Window for Examination: The Indiana Behavioral Health and Human Services Licensing Board, is temporarily waiving the application of 839 IAC 1-3-5, 839 IAC 1-4-3.3, 839 IAC 1-5-2, and 839 IAC 1-5.5-5 insofar as they require applicants for licensure by examination to sit for the examination within one (1) year from the date of the initial board approval. This waiver is only effective during the public health emergency and will initially be limited to 90 days. Upon the end of the public health emergency, the rule will no longer be waived and becomes reinstated effective immediately. A copy of the order may be found HERE.

Mental Health Professionals & Telehealth: Pursuant to Executive Order 20-05, all licensed mental health professionals in the State of Indiana are permitted to conduct their work via telehealh. All statutes and rules that are applicable during remote practice must still be observed; however the requirement that the patient be physically present with the professional is suspended until the end of the public health crisis.

Critical Fingerprinting: The following license types have been deemed critial by the Indiana Department of Administration and will be given priority for the purposes of getting fingerprinting completed.
License Types: Marriage and Family Therapists and Associates, Mental Health Counselors and Associates, Social Workers (LSW)

PLA Remote Work: In response to COVID-19 and the impact it is having on the State of Indiana, the Professional Licensing Agency will have the majority of our staff working remotely in the coming weeks. Please prioritize the usage of email to communicate with our staff whenever possible and scan any documents that need to be processed. Important notice regarding changes to the law affecting the licensure of social workers in the state:

Effective July 1st, 2019, pursuant to Senate Enrolled Act 527, the Behavioral Health and Human Services licensing board may begin to issue a temporary permit to practice as a bachelor's degree social worker to an individual who meets certain requirements.

Important notice regarding changes to the law affecting the licensure of marriage and family therapists in the state:

Effective July 1st, 2019, pursuant to House Enrolled Act 1199, the requirements for an applicant seeking licensure as a marriage and family therapist has been updated to include specific requirements for relational hours as part of the supervision requirement for licensure.
