The Indiana DNR Division of Forestry offers Community and Urban Forestry Assistance grants that help improve, protect, maintain, and increase the number of trees in Indiana communities. Local government entities and non-profit  501 C 3 organizations can apply for funding to enhance their urban forests.

This funding is provided on an annual basis by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and is pass-through/sub-grant funding from a USDA Forest Service grant.

Applicants must match grant funds dollar for dollar with an in-kind and/or monetary match. Grants funds are made available to Indiana communities for:

• Public tree inventories/ and management planning
  • Street/park tree inventories (public property)
    • Tree Risk Assessment
  • Urban Tree Canopy (UTC) Assessment
  • Urban Forest Management Planning
    • Prioritized planting planning
    • Storm response planning
    • Risk mitigation planning
    • Ordinance development or revision
• Tree planting (public property)
• Education and outreach
  • Publications/Materials
  • Staff training
  • Events
• Other related projects dependent of funding goals/priorities
