Administrator-in-Training Program

Those completing the HFA or RCA program MAY NOT begin the administrator-in-training program until they have received written approval from the Board. Along with this written approval, applicants will receive a packet of information that includes the following:

  1. Start Notification Form
  2. Notice of Change of Status and/or Discontinuance in AIT Program
  3. Affidavit of Completion

HFA A.I.T. Program Requirements

  • The administrator-in-training program must be completed in a comprehensive care facility. You will serve as an administrator-in-training for a minimum of twenty (20) hours per week but no more than ten (10) hours daily. You are required to complete the program in a minimum of six (6) months and a maximum of twelve (12) months for a minimum total of one thousand forty (1,040) hours. However, the board may grant a waiver of a portion(s) of the hours based on criteria approved by the board.

RCA A.I.T. Program Requirements

  • At least eighty (80) hours of the administrator-in-training program must be completed in a comprehensive care facility. Remaining hours must completed within the preceptor's facility.You will serve as an administrator-in-training for a minimum of twenty (20) hours per week but no more than ten (10) hours daily. You are required to complete the program in a minimum of six (6) months and a maximum of twelve (12) months for a minimum total of eight hundred and sixty (860) hours.

Obtaining a Preceptor

  • Have the licensed administrator who wishes to be your preceptor complete and submit the Application for Preceptor. For more information regarding what qualifies a licensee to serve as a preceptor please visit the Preceptor Applicants instruction page.
  • Please note: The Board cannot locate a preceptor for you nor do they provide a listing of administrators who are qualified to act as preceptors in the State of Indiana.
  • To obtain a list of qualified administrators who have successfully completed the preceptor training through the Indiana Health Care Association, please contact Katie Niehoff with IHCA at kniehoff@ihca.org.
