Healthy Hoosiers Foundation

The Healthy Hoosiers Foundation (HHF) is a 501(c) (3) that was created by the General Assembly in 2013 (SEA 415). The Foundation was approved to solicit and accept private funding, gifts, donations, bequests, devises, and contributions. The foundation provides funding for programs at the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) that promotes the health and well-being of Hoosiers. The HHF is dedicated to a wide range of health issues, but in particular the HHF concentrates on funding programs that:

  1. Reduce Infant Mortality
  2. Increase Childhood Immunizations
  3. Reduce Obesity
  4. Reduce smoking rates .

Smoking by pregnant women is a leading cause of low birth weight, which contributes to the infant mortality rate.  This year, the HHF is concentrating on lowering the infant mortality rate in Indiana by raising funds for the Baby & Me Tobacco Free program.  The Baby & Me program targets pregnant women who smoke. If a pregnant woman completes our program, she receives a $25 voucher for diapers for every month that she is smoke-free after the baby is born.  ISDH currently funds this program in more than a half-dozen counties, but with additional money we can expand the program to new counties.  You can learn more about the Baby & Me program at http://babyandmetobaccofree.org/

All contributions to the HHF are tax-deductible and go directly to the programs. The HHF is overseen by a board of directors, with the Indiana state health commissioner as president, and an executive director.
